Proposal for regeneration of the Newport Castle. Indoor and outdoor performance spaces, sheltered by rusted steel, sit on a heavy concrete plinth. Thick concrete, protective during high tides, is stained by both river and rainwater. Modern materials with a hint of decay and simplicity of form were employed to manifest respect for the historic building.
